About

줄로 (Jules RHO) 의 이미지들은 (통상의 형식주의적 분류지침을 따르자면) 일러스트레이션(illustration) 이나 패턴(pattern)화 사이를 오가는 듯 보이는, 그리 크지 않으며 대체로 채색이 절제된 드로잉 들이다. 경계를 넘나드는 그의 드로잉이 잉태되는 과정에서 중요한 것은 첫째, 여과된 인생의 경험들과 머릿속을 맴도는 생각들을 포집하는 단계와 비유와 상징의 적절한 작용을 허용하는 하나 의 문양(文樣)에 이르기까지 압축해내는 단계다. 특히 이 압축 과정에서 직관적 환기성이 중요한데, 이는 경험의 시화(詩化)와 형식의 패턴(pattern)화 사이를 오가면서 구현된다. 이 과정은 욕망의 분방한 방사와 직관적 실행을 의미하는 ‘드로잉(drawing)’의 일반 개념과는 엄연히 갈라서는 것인 동시에 주체의 면밀한 긴밀한 개입과 구구한 설명의 일체 배제라는 점에서 통상의 일러 스트레이션과 도 확연하게 다르다. 명상과 성찰이 그 기반을 이룬다는 점에서 장식화나 패턴화와 도 결코 동일 계열로 분류될 수 없다. 이 드로잉들은 장르들 간의 계몽적 분류 체계에 장애를 야기함으로써, 오히려 그것이 자행해온 미학적 오류를 되짚어보도록 만들며, 그런 맥락에서만 장르간 계통질서에 대한 논의를 허용한다. 아크솔 의 의미는?

2013년 ETSY 에서 "ART & SPIRITS" 이라는 shop 을 열어 몇년간 운영해오다가 2018년 한국으로 돌아오게 되었다. ‘구부러지는 영혼’ 이라는 생각에서 아들 Jeff 의 영향을 받아 이름을 다시지었다. 사실 “구부러지는” 에는 건축의 의미가 있다. 나는 언젠가부터 직선을 많이 쓰고있기때문이기도하다.

누구나 자기삶을 사는 과정을 거친다. 삶은 녹녹치않다라는 진리가 있지만 각자 가진 삶속에는 눈부신 축복들이 가득하다. 그 축복들을 깊이 느끼게되면 많은게 부서져버려 나가떨어지고, 사라진 희망에 좌절하면서도 또 아름다움을 배우게된다. 그 아름다움은 작은 발돋움을 부추긴다.

죽는날까지 배우는것, 그게 나는 인생이라고 생각한다. 과거는 발판이고 현재는 내가 사는일이고 미래는 꿈이다. 후회는 쓸데없지만 반성은 내영혼을 정화해준다. 그림은 내게 수단과 목적을 준다. 내가 정신적으로 무언가를 깨달으면 그림도 같이 성장해준다. 아크솔은 프린트 shop 을 이용해 많은 사람들이 내그림들을 즐겨주기를 바라는 마음으로 열었다. 내가 배워온 삶이 묻어난 표현들이 그림속에 있을것이다. 그리고 그것들은 내가 어떻게 살아왔는지 말하고있을것이다. 또 어떻게 살아갈지도… 미래는 꿈을 꾸는것이다. 꿈은 인간이 가진 가장 아름다운 선물이다.

Since 2013 I owned the Etsy shop as Art And Spirits. I came back to Korea from France. I renamed the shop name ARC SOUL meaning The soul who makes arc. Actually arc includes the meaning of architecture and because I use quite of straight lines naturally.

Everyone gets through the process of living. Life is not easy but each one can find such blessings if they try. If one find that blessing, it’s like le bouclier against pain; from long hopeless nights one could sees the beauty and that encourages one to move forward step by step. The process is not about waiting, it’s about listening the beauty in dark days.

Learning until one dies, I think that is life about. The past is foothold, the present is what I have now and the future is to dream. The regret is useless but reflection make my soul cleaner. Painting is the instrument and the purpose à moi. When I realize a thing, my painting comes with me. I opened this shop wishing many people could enjoy my work through this shop. I am sure that using expression for the life is in the painting. It will show that how I have lived and how I am going to be living after… The future is about dreaming. I think having the dream is the most beautiful gift as a human being. I thank to Souls to be arc. et l’arc en ciel aussi.
